Matching and Direction

One of the characteristics of transparently finished wood cabinetry is the extent to which grain direction and panel color is matched across cabinet faces and amongst cabinet groupings.

Standards for matching and grain direction, along with other qualitative cabinetry standards, are set by the American Woodwork Institute.

Premium

Highest standard. Well matched for color. Continuous vertical grain across drawer and door faces. Sequenced and numbered panels are specifically made for the cabinet job.

Custom

Matched for color but panels can be taken from panel manufacturer stock. Drawer faces grain may be horizontal and not match doors below.

Economy

No matching of grain or color is required. Lesser grade components are used across the board.
