Hinge Types

The four most common hinge types are illustrated below. European hinges are an industry standard.

European

Can be used with Flush Overlay and Reveal Overlay doors. Has a high to moderate strength and self closing versions do not need a catch. By far, the most popular hinge used today because of it's adjustability and ease of installation.

Pivot

Can be used on Flush Overlay and Reveal Overlay doors. A low cost hinge with moderate strength. Not easily adjusted.

Wrap Around

Used with Reveal Overlay doors. Very high strenght hinge that may or may not be mortised. Easy to install but difficult to adjust.

Butt Hinges

Used with conventional Exposed Face Frame cabinets. High strength hinges require mortising to install. Best used with solid wood doors.
